Accepted Products
The following is a rough guide to the materials acceptance policy and thus open to change and negotiation. The qualities by which one judges a “good” or “reusable” material are very subjective. One’s junk is another’s treasure, and the criteria by which Matsu Valley Rebuild selects materials can vary with the seasons.
Supply will often determine acceptance. All cases are open to consideration.
Acceptable List (simple)
Materials accepted (initially)
-lights -electrical -toilets -sinks -tubs -showers -mirrors -plumbing
-cabinetry -flooring -lumber -trim -doors -windows -hardware
-ceiling fans -tile -paint -ductwork -new carpet -landscaping -gutters
-fencing -metal roof/siding -unused agents (morter, concrete, joint compound etc.)
-vintage items -light fixtures -plumbing fixtures -unused wire
Lumber, Trim and Siding
-For salvaged lumber, minimum length is four feet, unless specialty or vintage trim
-Lumber with nails – accepted at staff discretion, de-nailed enough for safe handling
-Hardwood and softwood flooring – preferably de-nailed and reusable
-Less likely: lumber with excessively peeling paint, pest infestations or dry rot
Doors
-All panel doors and vintage styles encouraged (with or without case)
-Hollow core doors (case preferred); without case accepted if condition and space allow
-Solid core commercial doors
-Aluminum screen doors with complete frame
-Security doors with or without complete frame
-Unacceptable: garage doors, doors with bowing, excessively peeling paint, or doors in need of major repair
Windows
-Double pane vinyl, wood and aluminum (thermal pane seals must be intact)
-Wood frame divided light windows
-Fixed and picture windows – accepted at staff discretion
Kitchen and Bathroom Cabinets
-Free of damage beyond simple repair
-Particle board cabinets must be in very good condition
-Missing doors/drawers at staff discretion
Sinks
-Free of chips, cracks, deep scratches or severe stains (exc-rare/vintage/colored models)
-Wall mounted sinks, preferably with wall bracket
Tubs
-Fairly clean: no heavy caulking, glues, etc.
-Free of chips, peeling finish, scratches or severe stains (exception-clawfoot/vintage models)
Toilets
-Must be of "premium" quality
-Clean and complete with lid
-Lids accepted separately, if toilet is damaged beyond repair
-Free of cracks, chips, etc.
Plumbing and fixtures
-in reusable condition
Carpet
-New
-At least 8 feet square or suitable as runner
Light Fixtures
-Must be clean and in working order. -All wires must be in-tact and safe. -Globes/shades are accepted, but must not be cracked.
Wires, plates and lighting hardware
-in reusable condition
Drywall/Sheetrock
-half sheets accepted at staff discretion
-uninstalled
Plywood and OSB
-4′x4′ / 2′x8′ or larger
-in reusable condition
Vinyl flooring
-6′x6′ or larger

Block, glass block, stone, tile and brick
-must be whole, clean and free of mortar. Tools and equipment
-must be in working order, cords must be in tact

-2' x 2' or larger
-in reusable condition, standard installation holes are accepted
Rain Gutters and accessories
-in reusable condition
Landscape materials and products
-in reusable condition
Furniture
-built-ins, antiques, uniques, real wood shelving
-in reusable condition
Valley Rebuild is less likely to accept the following:
-Florescent lights
Valley Rebuild WILL NOT accept the following:
-Automobiles
-Appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, microwaves, etc. -except for vintage models
-Batteries
-Materials painted with lead paint
-Pesticides / Poisons / Herbicides
-Florescent lightbulbs not marked "No PCBs"
-Asbestos containing materials: old drop ceiling tiles, floor tiles, insulation, etc.
-Toxic or flammable materials
-Soft furniture; sofas, overstuffed chairs
Future Projects:
Bicycles, bicycle parts
“Industrial Thrift”:
Old fire hose, 50 G drums, buckets, pallets, parachutes, wheels, tires, tracks, artificial turf, rope, conveyor belts, fishing nets, decommissioned signs and any other re-purposeful items and materials.
Repairable/partable computers and computer parts
Repairable/partable large appliances; washers, dryers, ovens, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, water heaters, furnaces, wood stoves, boilers…etc.
